Game Concept
Game Title
Ricochet
Concept Statement
Ricochet is your classic top down action shooter game with a twist. Each stage is randomly generated and gets progressively harder. You can even play along with a friend to take out as many enemies as possible!
Genre
Rogue style action shooter
(Rogue https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rogue_(video_game))
Concept Creation Process
My game is going to be a mashup of a few of my favourite games. I’m looking at a standard style shooter i.e. good guy versus bad guys, but using a rogue style random generated stage.
Some of the ideas I have are:
- Unending game - This is another Rogue style mechanism. You keep pushing forward trying to increase your score. Killing all enemies in a level opens the next and so forth. The player should be able to increase their score for each stage they complete. Losing all your health will return you to the title screen to begin again from scratch.
- Shooter style (this is from a number of games I enjoy), with bouncy lasers!
- Basic shooter kills bad guys, get points etc.
- Randomly generated stages (this comes from Rogue) - I think I will be able to, using tile maps, create a number of large tiles, which can then be randomly generated to create the level.
- Multiplayer - Multiplayer options are also currently being thought of such that if there are two players, it will double the amount of enemies.
Audience
The audience could be anyone that enjoys a casual shooter game. The player should be able to pick this game up and play without any real experience playing this style of game before.
Similar games such as Rogue Legacy have the same style randomly generated levels, but that game is a platformer, where as this is a top down shooter.
Game Treatment and Concept Art
You play the part of Doug the mage. You are not a very good mage. You only know the one spell. LAZOR! But you want to prove yourself and enter the Dungeon of Dread, a mysterious and dangerous place famed for its mysteriousness and dangerousness. Attempt to get through as many rooms as you can, zapping as many monsters as possible.
